All About Spanish Director - Norma Vetell
In 2011 Norma started an after-school class at her house to help her two children improve their Spanish Language and teach Spanish to her children's neighboring friends on a combination of "Waldorf Techniques" and the methods she learned during her ESL teaching experience. She began teaching six children one afternoon a week and the results were phenomenal - not only were the children learning Spanish, but they loved the Spanish class, looked forward to it each week and started inviting other children to join them. From this innovative experience, All About Spanish was born.
Norma was born and raised in Bolivia and came to this country at the age of 16. She earned her Bachelor's degree at St. John's University and Masters' degrees in Early Childhood Education and Early Childhood Special Education at Hunter College in 2005. She continued studing at Touro College and received her Bilingual extension in 2008 and Foreign Language at the Elementary School Extension in 2014 at Dowling College. She has worked as a Behavior Analyst for 13 years, teaching children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders with delays in language and communication. Her specialty is in providing bilingual (Spanish) instruction. Her life's work was dedicated to teaching these children funtional speech and communication through structured and systematic instruction. She has taken what she has learned from her many years of experience to create a curriculum to teach children the Spanish Language.

Our Philosophy

Our mission is to provide our students with the knowledge and skills to live in a global community and allow them to become proficient in Spanish as they develop higher thinking skills that will be reflected in all aspects of their education. We believe that by providing our students access to the Spanish culture, our program will help them become global citizens and open doors for their future success. Our goal is to equip our students to function and interact globally and be a productive member of our society while embracing other cultures through Spanish language learning in an environment that encourages creativity and academic achievement.

"Through the inner flexibility of their speech organ the children find their way to a flexible soul and an openness that has an effect on their entire later life and especially on their social abilities. The foreign language lesson is suited like practically no other lesson to encourage openness and awaken interest for what is foreign to oneself-and in our time of widespread racism and social conflict on both small and large scale this is a pedagogical mission of the first order." - Rudolph Steiner
